Gas prices in the Midwest have continued their downward trend for the second consecutive week, settling at an average of $3.26 per gallon of regular fuel as of Monday, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This marks a decline from the previous week’s average of $3.35 per gallon.
Over the past month, the average fuel price in the Midwest has decreased by approximately 17 cents. Comparatively, data from the EIA reveals that gas prices in the region have fluctuated between a low of $2.77 on January 8, 2024, and a high of $3.77 on August 14, 2023.
A year ago, the average gas price in the Midwest was notably higher at $3.51 per gallon, reflecting a 7% decrease in current prices.
Nationally, the average gas price for the United States last week stood at $3.43 per gallon, making prices in the Midwest region approximately 4.9% lower than the national average. This national average has also decreased from the previous week’s figure of $3.52 per gallon.
The EIA’s compilation of prices covers states in the Midwest region, encompassing Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
