by Yuki

Aya Gold & Silver has announced the successful pouring of its first silver at the expanded Zgounder mine in Morocco, marking a significant milestone for the Canadian miner. The initial pour, completed on July 2nd through the existing cyanidation plant, signals progress in the mine’s ongoing expansion efforts.

CEO Benoit La Salle highlighted the pour as a crucial step forward in the Zgounder mine’s expansion journey, aiming for full production by the fourth quarter of 2024.

The company reports that all commissioning activities, including the testing of the ball mill and hydrostatic tests, are proceeding according to plan. The mill is expected to receive ore feed this quarter, paving the way for commercial production in the near future.

Situated in the central Anti-Atlas mountains, the Zgounder mine is recognized as Morocco’s second-largest silver producer, following Managem’s Imiter mine. It boasts reserves of approximately 8.6 million tonnes, containing 257 grams per tonne of silver, totaling 70.9 million ounces.
