Tomato prices in Bhubaneswar have soared to an unprecedented ₹100 per kilogram, leaving consumers struggling to afford this essential vegetable. Local vendor Basant reported a significant drop in sales due to the steep prices, stating, “Consumers are turning away due to high prices, drastically reducing sales.”
The price surge is largely attributed to adverse weather conditions, including prolonged heatwaves and insufficient rainfall, which have severely impacted crop yields and disrupted supply chains.
